Health
Around the world, if there is one desire we all have in common; it's that every person wants to have a happy, healthy life. Our need for good health affects our decisions, our lifestyle and our actions each day. We hope for healthy babies and children and do our best to raise our families to lead a healthy lifestyle. As we get older and reach the end of life, the loss of health is something we do not let go of without a struggle. But with all of our modern healthcare and technology, why are things such as wellness and happiness so hard to get and keep? Is there a secret to health and vitality?Health can be defined in many different ways. According to ancient medicine, health means having a body that is clear of toxins, a peaceful mental state and calm, contented emotions. In this condition, all of the body systems function properly, poisons are easily eliminated and a sense of balance and well-being, physically, mentally and emotionally are achieved.
What factors can affect our health?
Good health or poor health, do not just happen accidentally. Scientists have discovered that there are four major factors that contribute to the state of our health. These factors are:(1) Lifestyle and Behavior
(2) Environment
(3) Health care
(4) Genetics and Biological makeup
While some of these factors can be difficult or impossible to change, most people recognize that they must take personal responsibility for their own health, especially in the areas that are within their control.
Dr. Thomas Stachnik of Michigan State University points out that in the United States, the health and lifespan of Americans is "no longer related to the infectious diseases prevalent at the turn of the century; instead, they are related to chronic disorders related to our life-styles." This trend is not exclusive to North America, it's seen by physicians in health centers around the world.
According to the Royal Melbourne Hospital in Australia, doctors are seeing "people who have choked the blood from their heart with cigarettes, and torn the air from their lungs; who have squandered their body through lethargy; who have been digging their own graves with gluttonous gums; whose organs have been eroded with alcohol; whose bones have been splintered by delinquent driving; whose nerves have been snapped on the rack of ambition or anxiety; whose personality has become a plague through drugs; whose kidneys have been gnawed by aspirin; and whose mind has been sludged with sedatives."
While these doctor's frank observations may be true, it doesn't mean that most people do this damage to their health deliberately. Our day to day life can be physically and mentally draining and expose us to all kinds of toxins, causing our body to slowly deteriorate. As our body defences begin to weaken, often without our notice, chronic diseases or infections can start to creep in. At this point, symptoms may suddenly appear which is when we may first realize that our health has been affected.
What you can do to protect your health:
Ancient medicine has taught for thousands of years that the whole person - mind, body and spirit- need to be treated to attain peak health. Wellness, in the holistic sense, involves much more than our physical state. Our mental health and emotional well-being play equally important roles when it comes to achieving the best health and fitness possible. There are many forms of alternative therapies that offer a wonderful means of gaining and keeping this balance. Therapeutic massage is an excellent example. While massage treatments bring relief to sore, aching muscle areas and cleanses the body of toxins, they also work by releasing pent-up emotional and mental tension that we tend to carry around day to day.The best YOU possible:
To combat these negative factors, an all-around healthy lifestyle is one of the best gifts you can give yourself and the people you love. Generally speaking, the most common men's health issues, especially high blood pressure and cholesterol and certain types of cancers, can be prevented or improved by healthy eating, natural health supplements and regular exercise. The same is true for women's health concerns, especially breast cancer, osteoporosis and heart disease. While family history and genetic predisposition can't be ignored, healthy living can give people the best odds possible in leading a long, disease-free life.Looking for more natural health tips?
