Following the ayurvedic life style will not only keep you healthy but increases your oajas (life) & provides a more cheerful perspective.
As part of the Ayurvedic consultation you will also receive Nutritional and Lifestyle Guidance.
Below is an explanation of these.

Nutritional guidance (Ahara/food):

Ahara, the first pillar, means “intake” and refers to the knowledge of a proper diet. The Ayurvedic understanding of nutrition is quite different from that of the western mentality. Primary focus of western nutrition relies on the physical attributes of food: the amount of proteins, fats, carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals. But on the other hand Ahara is primarily concerned with the effects of various types of food, relating to the quality of the mind, the digestion and the balance of the doshas.

For maintaining good health one should be aware of what to, when to & how to eat, and the effect the wrong type of diet has on ones life, that being the correct food for the different constitutions of each person. Practice on such related considerations does not aggravate the doshas & promotes longevity of life; however the opposite leads to aggravation of doshas and thus causes illness and disease.

A fully established disease can not be cured only with diet and eating habits alone, even though it may assist in reducing the negative effects by up to 60%, the remaining 40% will need to be cured using a form of medicine and yoga therapy.  The best way to be assured of a healthy body is to understand your personal constitution, exercise and consume the foods that assist in providing the right balance to your digestive requirements; this action will greatly assist in reducing your body’s exposure to illness and disease.

According to Ayurveda most of all the diseases are due to improper metabolism and generally attributes to a weak digestive fire (agni) and thus leads to an imbalance of doshas. Weak digestive fire leaves some amount of food undigested and this undigested food is called as aam which is a kind of toxin which if allowed remaining in our digestive track for lengthy periods leads to illness.

Lifestyle guidance:

Vihara (activity) is the second pillar of ayurveda. So this principle tells us how to act in a way which supports our life and includes some guidelines to obtain maximum the health benefit and balance of our both physical and psychological dosha.

Accepting the right living methods is a kind of self healing.  So by the successful use of these guidelines helps not only to balance good health but to maintain sattvic mind as the main focus of ayurveda is to refine the quality of mind. Sattvic mind is important to us as it provides the ability to identify exactly what is good for us and the motivation to act on what we know.
